Belgian musician extraordinaire Stromae makes a brilliant return with single “Santé,” his first new music in eight years.
A
fter an eight-year hiatus, Belgian musicianVocally, Stromae gives a strong performance, period. His singing is pleasant. Furthermore, his rapped/chanted moments satisfy as well. Lyrically, “Santé” celebrates workers who don’t get any thanks or far too often go unappreciated. Translated from French, on the chorus, the artist sings:
“Yes, let’s celebrate those who don’t celebrate
Once again, I would like to raise my glass to those who don’t have
Those who don’t have
Those who don’t have.”
It’s a nice, thoughtful sentiment. Amplifying that sentiment, it’s nice to see those people who don’t get proper recognition dance and ‘celebrate’ on the entertaining music video. With a great performance, intriguing and thoughtful songwriting, and a stellar music video, arguably the crowning achievement of “Santé” is the sound. This is a superbly produced record (Stromae, Juanpaio Toch, and
Moon Willis), one that leaves you in awe of its creativity. It’s bright, ear-catching, and groovy as albeit. The guitar, synths, the rhythms – it’s EVERYTHING. Yes, the thoughtful theme and lyrics are key, but the backdrop is epic!
Final Thoughts
Eight years Stromae, really? We can easily forgive him because “Santé” ends up being totally worth the wait. I dare you find a miscue – it’s not there! Great vocals, great songwriting, and great production make “Santé” a must-hear sure to boost your musical health!
