L.A.-based Italian-American singer, songwriter, and musician STF (Stefan Poole) ‘brings the heat’ on his superb debut single, “Lookalike.”
If you need fresh ‘pop’ blood on your playlist, then look no further than up-and-coming L.A.-based singer, songwriter, and musician, STF. If you thought that his name looked like part of a profane phrase, get your mind out of the gutter! It’s pronounced ‘Stef,’ which is short for Stefan Poole. STF has a great resume already, opening for acts including JoJo, Brian McKnight, Anderson. Paak – not to mention his role as part of the band for Jack & Jack, a hot up-and-coming duo in their own right. There’s even more beyond that, including his early music education, being cast as a musician on Glee, appearing on an Italian talent show, Amici. Yeah, this dude is stacked. The trajectory is clearly up, exemplified even more with his hot new single, “Lookalike,” produced by Duddy Brown.
“Lookalike” is ear-catching, better yet, decadent ear candy. STF’s vocals truly pop out of the production. The energy he brings from the onset is killer, and it only increases as the song progresses. Even more impressive is the number of things that he does vocally, providing a mix of biting and smooth vocals, not to mention some sick falsetto. Essentially, he shows us just how versatile he is as a musician, which is something that can’t be said of everybody. Furthermore, the ad-libs are terrific – he leaves it all on the field. Also, worth noting is the songwriting, which cleverly finds STF depicting the tale of an ex dating his lookalike – doppelgänger if you will. According to Poole:
“After my last relationship ended, I went to my ex’s Facebook page and found out that she was already dating somebody new, and this guy was basically my doppelgänger – same haircut, same facial hair and style.”
The crowning achievement is clearly the chorus, which is catchy to the nth degree. Also, focusing on the production, there’s excellent incorporation of pitch-shifted vocals, rhythmic synths, anchoring beat, and rhythmic guitars. This is modern pop in all its glory, incorporating electronic cues magnificently. Hard to believe this is his debut single, right?
Final Thoughts
So, are there really any weaknesses regarding “Lookalike?” Honestly, no. STF has an excellent thing working in his favor here. Clearly, he has the full artistic package, and hopefully, “Lookalike” is the catalyst for more folks to talk about him, not to mention listening to his awesome music and overall style. “Lookalike” is a total bop.
