In the 34th edition of Lit Music That Lifts, we’re uplifted by Stevie Wonder performing, “Shelter in the Rain.”
Welcome to Lit Music That Lifts (LMTL), or Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 for short! Music Lifts seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity. Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights! So, for the 34th edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2022), we highlight 🎵 “Shelter in the Rain” as performed by 🎙 Stevie Wonder.
“I’ll be your comfort through your pain / I’ll be your shelter in the rain.” How utterly inspired and dedicated, 🎙 Stevie Wonder! 🎵 “Shelter in the Rain” appeared on Mr. Wonder’s 2005 album, 💿 A Time to Love. A Time to Love is the sole album of the iconic, 🏆 multi-award-winning musician released in either the 00s or the 10s! The good news is this is a terrific LP yielding such gems as this supportive, thoughtful, and uplifting ballad. Those vibes are positive to the nth degree.
“Just put your trust in me / My love will see you through.” Essentially, Stevie Wonder is willing to hold her up through adversity – when things seem bleakest. “When you’ve done everything you can,” he sings in the second verse, “No one’s there to take your hand / … I’ll be your shelter in the rain.” Helping him to lift the spirit is a choir, led by 🎙 Kirk Franklin and 🎙 Rickey Minor. That choir, notably, features a younger, eventual 🏆 Grammy-nominated R&B musician, 🎙 BJ the Chicago Kid. All in all, this is a beautiful, soulful ballad that reminds us how much of a treasure Stevie Wonder is. It also reminds us about how nice it is to be nice, and to be authentic in helping and lifting up a significant other or someone of significance in our lives.
