In the 19th edition of Music Lifts (2023), we’re uplifted by Stevie Wonder performing, “Love’s in Need of Love Today.”
Welcome to Music Lifts 🎶 🏋, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity. Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights! So, for the 19th edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2023), we highlight 🎵 “Love’s in Need of Love Today” as performed by 🎙 Stevie Wonder.
“What I’m about to say / Could mean the world’s disaster / Could change your joy and laughter to tears and pain.” C’mon, 🎙 Stevie Wonder! Spare us those devastating details! On 🎵 “Love’s In Need of Love Today”, the opener from the iconic, 1976 album, 💿 Songs in the Key of Life, Wonder touts the power of love – combatting all the hate! Of course, the best example of emphasizing the power of love comes in the centerpiece, the chorus: “That love’s in need of love today / Don’t delay, send yours in right away / Hate’s goin’ ‘round breaking many hearts / Stop it please before it’s gone too far.” Ooh wee, what powerful words!
Everything that Stevie Wonder pens and sings on “Love’s In Need of Love Today” is true to this day. Hate is running rampant and the only way to conquer it and not allow it to consume us is to spread love. As Wonder asserts in the second verse, “The force of evil plans to make you its possession.” #FACTS. How do we not become part of evil? “We all must take precautionary measures,” which are to spread love, love, and more love. Sure, it’s easier said than done, particularly with an anointed voice and talent like Stevie Wonder at the helm, but, again, the power of love CANNOT be overrated or overstated. Buck the hate, spread the love!
