Charlie Puth may be the big star (and older bro) but Stephen Puth definitely brings some skills to the table as well. He first captured the world’s attention with his “Sexual Vibe” back in 2018.  He’s back with his second brand-new single of 2020, “Whose Arms,” featuring Sofia Reyes. “Whose Arms” clocks in just under three minutes, which is an optimal duration for a pop joint. It’s written by Nolan Sipe, Oscar Görres, Reyes and Puth, with Görres handling the production work.  Initially, “Whose Arms” features a lighter backdrop, which matches the easy-going vocals by Puth. Stephen never forces things but sounds lovely and quite refined all-in-all.

Stephen Puth dominates the first part of the song beginning with intro, and continuing with the first verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and post-chorus. Matters of the heart have him feeling some type of way, as he’s perturbed by the end of love. Ultimately, he must confront the ex-, who he still has feelings for, asking and asserting on the chorus:

“Whose arms keep you warm when your bed gets cold?
Whose arms know the scars underneath your clothes?
I been up all night thinking
Tell me now where you been
Whose arms are you; whose arms are you
In tonight...”

By that point, the production has grown more robust and energic, just as Puth does. Sofia Reyes follows, providing contrast on the second verse, singing in Spanish.  You don’t have to understand the Spanish necessarily, as this is a familiar scenario in all honestly. She still has feelings, but they shouldn’t be together, etc. Her and Puth join forces on the pre-, chorus, and post-chorus with fine results.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Stephen Puth and Sofía Reyes deliver a pleasant pop duet with “Whose Arms.” Will it change your life? No – you’ve heard this script many times over. That said, the results are positive and totally inoffensive.  Definitely worth listening to.
