X Factor finalist and rising urban-pop singer Spencer Sutherland showcases ample potential on his latest single, “Talk.”
Ohio is in the house! How exactly? Spencer Sutherland is a 25-year old, up-and-coming urban-pop singer from Pickerington, Ohio. Notably, he was a finalist on the UK version of X Factor. Listening to his instrument, it’s crystal clear why Sutherland was so successful on the competition, as well as why he can see quite the ‘come up’ in the music business. Sutherland shows off his full range of abilities on his latest single, “Talk.” Take my word for it – you’ll be TALK-ing about this one.
The well-produced “Talk” features groovy, contemporary pop production. In regards to the form of the record, the sections are well-defined: verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and later, a brief bridge. Notably, the bridge is comprised mostly of ad libs, leading into the final chorus. Spencer Sutherland delivers compelling, nuanced vocals throughout. He has a distinct tone of voice, sounding relatively husky in his middle register. Sutherland surprises beyond his alluring middle register. He exhibits a lovely falsetto on the chorus. Ultimately, brightness and ripeness of the falsetto is nothing short of awesome.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, Spencer Sutherland doesn’t change the game with “Talk.” Nonetheless, he delivers an enjoyable single, and shows he has ample potential and tools to be a viable pop star. Those tools include looking the part as well.
