Producer/rapper Southside and rapper Lil Yachty collaborate on the hard-nosed, bite-sized banger, “Gimme Da Lite.”
“Southside on the track, yeah.” Indeed, Southside, indeed! The producer/rapper works behind the boards exclusively on
“Gimme Da Lite”. He produces alongside Al B Smoov, Thank You Fizzle, and Max Lord. On this brief rap banger, Southside collaborates with the ever-idiosyncratic rapper,
Lil Yachty. When it comes to a Lil Yachty track, you can always expect ample personality and uniqueness, PERIOD.
“Gimme Da Lite” is no lyrical masterclass per se, but it is ear-catching. After establishing the production tag in the intro, Lil Yachty dives TF in. “Free all my lil’ homies, they was goin’ insane / Couple of new niggas tryna join the gang.” Ooh-wee! Of course, with the mention of gang, we get some violent and unapologetic bars. Yachty adds, “Pussy ain’t no Blood, he never seen a flame / Tweakin’ out, I feel that molly throbbin’ in my veins.” KIDS… SAY NO TO DRUGS! The rapper goes on to mention in his verse about percs, and, of course, can’t resist referencing a ‘private part’ once more… Beyond the verse, he delivers the light-driven chorus, with a bridge sandwiched in between (“I put diamonds in my mouth when. I grin / You ain’t gon’ get back, pussy, take it on the chin”). All told, the bite-sized
“Gimme Da Lite” is interesting. Is it the second coming? Nah, but intriguing.
