Although devoid of substance and lacking transcendence, Sonny Digital, assisted by Lil Xan and $teven Cannon, drop a respectable turn-up track with “I Got.”
Sonny Digital certainly knows how to assemble a banger, sigh. A personal favorite from the producer will always be the early Future hit, “Same Damn Time.” Oh the nostalgia. Anyways, the DJ, producer, and rapper returns with a song of his own, “I Got.” He enlists the help of $teven Cannon and rising rapper, Lil Xan.
It’s important to go into “I Got” expecting little – no shade. This is a turn-up banger, not a truly meaningful, transcendent record. The production is a great starting place. It’s skeletal, featuring a subtle treble synth, and heavy, trap percussion anchoring things down. Simple, but highly effective. Next, we move to the hook. Following his confident first verse (“When I came up, pockets was flat / When I’m winning, I ran up a set”), Sonny Digital bestows this infectious gem on us.
“I got the racks, I got the Benz
I got the gas, I got the Henn’
I got that check, got that advance
I got that check mama got it advance
I got it, she got it / He got it, we got it.”
$teven Cannon arrives on the second verse, focused on important matters like material things, sex, and drugs. The same can be said about Lil Xan on the third verse. Some of the time, it’s hard to figure out exactly what the up-and-coming rapper is spitting. While I have been somewhat critical of him and the SoundCloud rap movement, the energy he serves up is a selling point. The rhymes that are decipherable are absolutely filthy – sex, drugs, and RAP.
“All on you b*tch, she on my d*ck
She rub the cl**, what, yeah she rub the cl**
I’m poppin’ Xans, I like them Xans
I like them pill, I get f*cked up.”
Final Thoughts
As aforementioned, what you get out of “I Got” depends on how you go in. If you go in open-minded and expecting little, you’ll view this as a stupid, yet banging turn-up, flex track. If you go in expecting a symphony from Sonny Digital and company, you’ll be utterly disappointed. This isn’t a game changer, but if you’re in need of a banger with little substance just to get you hyped up, “I Got” has got you covered.
