Sofi Tukker, Treehouse © UltraDance Duo Sofi Tukker brings the craziness with “Batshit,” the fifth single from their highly-anticipated full-length debut album, ‘Treehouse.’

Sofi Tukker (Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern) came out swinging with numerous singles in 2017.  The middle fingers were to the sky as the Grammy-nominated duo captivated and took down the haters on “Fuck They”.  #Epic.  After getting the bombs out of their system, they came back friendlier with “Best Friend.” Back again, Hawley-Weld showed off her Portuguese on “Energia.”  Now, after a long wait, the duo is releasing their highly-anticipated, full-length debut album, Treehouse (2016’s Soft Animals was comprised of six songs).  Following “Baby I’m a Queen”, their first single of 2018, the duo dropped a blunter offering, “Batshit.”

For the most part, “Batshit” is a representative example of the Sofi Tukker catalogue up until this point. In regards to the singles leading up to Treehouse, it blends right in. From the get-go, “Batshit” is chocked-full of fun.  It’s danceable, infectious, and undoubtedly irresistible. Is it “batshit crazy?” A little bit.

Other notes regarding “Batshit” (just rolls off the tongue when you say it).  Notably, Tucker Halpern has a much more substantial vocal role compared to previous singles.  This is a welcome change.  Of course, Sophie Hawley-Weld gets in on the action, with arguably the most important part of the song – drum roll please – the titular lyric! Yes, Hawley-Weld holds “batshit” down like a champ, while Halpern follows-up with “I’m batshit crazy.” Such lyricism!  If “Batshit” sounds familiar, that’s thanks to an interpolation of the narcissistic classic, “I’m Too Sexy.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Sofi Tukker has another gem on their hands.  Yes, it’s repetitive and no it’s not particularly deep lyrically, but “Batshit” is a jam – definitely a BOP.
