Snoop Dogg, Bible of Love © RCA InspirationSnoop Dogg shines on seven-and-a-half-minute record “Word Are Few,” a single from his forthcoming gospel album, ‘Bible of Love.’ He’s assisted splendidly by B Slade.

In March 2018, Snoop Dogg unveils a new studio album.  The 46-year old West Coast rapper is past his lucrative prime, so it’s rare that his new albums garner much buzz.  However, Bible of Love, arriving March 16, 2018, is a bit different – it’s a gospel album! It’s shocking, but in some respects, not so shocking.  Snoop has proven he has some vocal chops on his fine, if underrated R&B album, BUSH (2014).  If single “Words Are Few” is any indication, Bible of Love should be an interesting listen.  He’s assisted by B Slade.

The pace of the double album’s closing cut is incredibly slow. Sleekly produced, the vibe is a blend of urban contemporary, the laid-back West Coast sound, and contemporary black gospel.  The lush production and lethargic tempo is enough to make “Words Are Few” shine.  Snoop Dogg gives a respectable performance, in his signature chill approach. A more melodic Snoop capably delivers an emotional, well-rounded performance.  Things grow even more soulful, reaching an emotional fever pitch upon B. Slade’s arrival. His vocals are simply heaven-sent, particularly his growl in his upper register.  The spirit is turned-up to say the least.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Words Are Few” ends up being a pleasant surprise.  Snoop Dogg offers a compelling, clean performance (save for the censored references to pot), while B. Slade wows with mad runs, and unbelievable range.  While seven-and-a-half minutes pushes it, it’s a jam, whether you’re a gospel lover or just a fan of an old-school, super slow jam.
