Smokepurpp, Big Bucks © Alamo / InterscopeContinuing in a formula of brief, narrow-minded, utterly shallow rap, popular SoundCloud rapper Smokepurpp drops another empty, forgettable single, “Big Bucks.”

“I count big bucks, keep a thing tucked.” That’s the centerpiece of “Big Bucks,” a product of Mr. ‘Bless Yo Trap’ himself, Smokepurpp.  “Big Bucks” is set to appear on the young SOUNDCLOUD rapper’s forthcoming project, Deadstar 2. So, let’s analyze it. There’s simply not much, keeping it 100…

Perhaps its selling him short, but is it far-fetched to say that once you’ve heard one Smokepurpp song, you’ve heard them all? Answering honestly, NO, it’s not. “Big Bucks” is in the same vein as his previously released material. That means it follows a similar format, style, and even possesses a similar vibe. Other familiar characteristics of his formulaic approach include malicious production, explicit, hard-nosed, and repetitive rhymes, and a brief duration.

Final Thoughts

Smokepurpp continues to suffer from a lack of substance. To a certain degree, this is forgivable.  He’s 20 years old, which is an age that is still naïve of rich life experience.  Still, his penchant for materialism, violence, and drugs shows incredible narrow-mindedness.  20 he may be, but in order for him to reach his full potential, there must be more than “Big Bucks.”  This is an even larger problem for the SoundCloud movement in general.
