Slim Jxmmi, Brxnks Truck © InterscopeSlim Jxmmi, the most rap-oriented half of southern rap duo Rae Sremmurd, drops his solo single, the confident, hard-nosed banger, “Brxnks Truck.”

2018 has been a busy year for Rae Sremmurd.  The duo continues to collaborate, and/or release their own singles.  Along with releasing joint single “Powerglide”, both Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi released solo singles.  Ultimately, the solo efforts from both are a larger part of a triple album. Yes, you read right… Anyways, for his solo turn, Slim Jxmmi serves up single, “Brxnks Truck.”

“Brxnks Truck” is an incredibly brief record at just two-and-a-half minutes.  It completely contrasts the kinder, gentler, smoother Swae Lee joint, “Hurt to Look”. “Brxnks Truck” features malicious, ‘seedy’ sounding production work. It definitely has the trap, and southern, hardcore rap in mind – fittingly. Slim Jxmmi drops the hook at right after a brief intro.  It’s unapologetic to say the least:

“Bring out the Brink’s truck, I’m young, fly and iced up (icy) / 100-yard dash, b*tch, I had to run my price up / N***a, boss your life up, I had to boss mine up (ayy) / 10,000-dollar outfit, hundred-dollar lineup (ayy).”

Slim Jxmmi serves up agile, hard-nosed, tough-minded rhymes. He doesn’t say anything ‘notable’ or game changing, but his flow is a selling point. The first verse is comprised of bitches, smoking weed, and unshakable confidence.  On the second verse, he continues to focus on sex and exuding confidence, while adding material things (diamonds) to the mix. Moving beyond the verses, in addition to the hook, there’s also a refrain, that appears after the first verse and after the final chorus:

“When you on top, n***as gon’ hate on you / That’s what they’re s’posed to do, I don’t know how to lose (yeah) / I think the ‘Rari go faster without the roof (skrrt, ayy) / When you on top, n***as gon’ hate on you / That’s what they’re s’posed to do, I don’t know how to lose (yeah) / I think the ‘Rari go faster without the roof (Jxm).”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Brxnks Truck” is an enjoyable banger, but nothing new or particularly innovative – not life changing. If the choice comes down to solo Swae or solo Slim, Swae edges him.
