Skrillex, Would You Ever © AtlanticOn “Would You Ever,” Skrillex, assisted by Poo Bear, falls short of his usual EDM glory.  At best, “Would You Ever” sounds ordinary.

“Would you ever run away with me?” “Fuck That”! Skrillex, man oh man – what were you thinking? Let’s rewind first.  Skrillex has been responsible for some of the best EDM over the years. He’s a beast.  Unfortunately, even “the might fall” sometimes.  That is the case with his latest single, “Would You Ever.” He enlists one Poo Bear (the singer, not Winnie) to perform the vocals.  The results are nothing short of a hot mess.

“Would You Ever” is sort of like SuperTed – “made all wrong from the start.” Musically, the vibe is okay, but even the backdrop is nothing brand new.  Poo Bear begins his repetitive singing, chocked full of vocal effects.  His vocals are chopped, screwed, and twisted in the most annoying fashion ever.  A little bit of this would’ve been bearable, but this is just too much manipulation, even for a dance joint.

Besides clichés and annoying vocals, what makes “Would You Ever” such a miss? There’s a lack of direction.  Sure, the M.O. lyrically is about love, but the yield effect is, ‘so what?’ There are plenty of songs where love is the subject that are more memorable.  Here, a couple of lyrics, some tired production effects, and no big arrival point make “Would You Ever” sound ordinary, not extraordinary.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Would You Ever” is a song everyone should run far away from.  The main reason is because this simply isn’t among the best work by Skrillex.  Skrillex is the man, but here, he falls short of the glory.  Poo Bear, often reliable, doesn’t help here either.  Again, it’s a product of the fact that two talented musicians are performing below their talent levels.  This one’s forgettable to say the least.
