Skooly, Crazy Shit [Photo Credit: TRU]Despite the ‘in your face song title,’ neither Skooly or Lil Xan offer much craziness beyond clichés on the brief banger “Crazy S**t.”

Let’s be honest.  Certain titles are indicative of the depth of a song and the lack thereof.  An s-bomb definitely diminishes the depth potential. That is the case with “Crazy Shit,” which is a title that is the furthest thing from a masterwork. 23-year old southern rapper Skooly enlists another young, up-and-coming rapper, SoundCloud star Lil Xan on this brief, rather empty number.  No offense, but there’s no magnum opus to be experienced.  Just clichés people, just clichés.

The biggest selling point of “Crazy Shit” is the production work.  Set in a minor key, the beat goes hard, while the left-hand piano adds to the malicious sound.  There’s also synths in the mix, but nothing too crazy, keeping this a skeletal banger.  Moving on to the rhymes, neither Skooly nor Lil Xan have much to say.  That said, their simplistic rhymes fit the sentiment, style, and vibe. Skooly is cocky and confident, as he brags about money, partying, and most of all, sex.  “I got plenty shows, I got plenty hoes.” Yep – been there, done that.  Really, is this indeed crazy? As for Lil Xan, he sounds a bit stronger on the second verse compared to his horrendous TOTAL XANARCHY, though we’ve been subject to lines like “I f*cked that bih like she my bae” more than enough times.

Final Thoughts

The tough thing when evaluating bangers is, should they be held to a higher standard? In this case, “Crazy Shit” is about what was expected before ever hearing a note, particularly with a guest appearance by Lil Xan.  Will this be among the most memorable songs of 2018? Absolutely not – it wears off pretty quickly. This is temporary pleasure for the SoundCloud rap/ SoundCloud rap affiliated crowd, but beyond that, this isn’t the type of song that’s in it for the long haul.  It gets points for the production, catchy if dumb hook, and the vibe, but the theme and lyricism are cliché and empty as a four-letter word.
