Sia returns with a brand, spanking new single āThe Greatestā featuring āitā rapper Kendrick Lamar. āThe Greatestā has the potential to be a big hit.
Pop singer/songwriter Sia released a new album back in January 2016, This Is Acting.Ā Regardless, Sia releases a new single thatās not part of This Is Acting, signifying a potential new project.Ā āThe Greatestā features āitā rapper Kendrick Lamar and potentially gives Sia another hit.
āThe Greatestā isnāt unlike āCheap Thrillsā in some of its production cues ā itās very much a Sia song.Ā The production work, hence, is slick as always. She delivers a solid vocal performance, sounding powerful and fully invested.Ā She gets a bonus lift from Kendrick Lamar on backing vocals, āI got stamina.ā
A solid pre-chorus section foreshadows the chorus:
āDonāt give up, I wonāt give up / donāt give up, no no noā¦ā
The chorus is uplifting and catchy, much like āBird Set Freeā or āAliveā:
āIām free to be the greatest, Iām alive / Iām free to be the greatest here tonight, the greatest / the greatest, the greatest alive / the greatest, the greatest aliveā
Prior to Kendrick Lamarās verse, thereās a fine post-chorus/bridge section by Sia.Ā Kendrick Lamar sounds incredibly clear on his verse.Ā It almost seems as if they took extra care toĀ polish his vocals/ vocalĀ production for this pop hit.
āI transform with pressure ā Iām hands-on with effort / I fell twice before my bounce back was special / letdowns will get you, and the critics will test you / but the strong will survive, another scar may bless you.ā
Final Thoughts
All in all, āThe Greatestā is yet another potential hit at the hands of Sia.Ā Itās slickly produced and features an uplifting, positive message.Ā Unlike so many pop artists, she doesnāt need to be profane or aim low ā she goes bigger and benefits because of it.Ā While Kendrick Lamar doesnāt deliver his most transcendent verse, his appearance only amplifies the potential success of this song.
