4 out of 5 stars

Sia does a fabulous job covering “Satisfied,” which appears on the Hamilton Mixtape. She is assisted by Miguel and Queen Latifah.

Sia has had big year in 2016.  This Is Acting gave the singer-songwriter another top-five album. Single “Cheap Thrills” landed at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Beyond her own album, Sia appears on the upcoming Hamilton Mixtape, due Dec. 2, 2016.  The Hamilton Mixtape features covers by various artists of the music from the blockbuster musical.  Sia covers “Satisfied,” with the help of Miguel and Queen Latifah.

“Satisfied” opens with Sia singing powerfully. The timbre of Sia’s voice is simply beautiful, perfectly suited to cover the hip-hop infused musical track. Miguel joins on the interlude, serving as a perfect complement to Sia. It’s too bad that there isn’t more room for more Miguel contributions on this track. Queen Latifah handles her rap like a champ.  Her flow sounds as strong as ever. “Satisfied” remains theatrical in the hands of Sia.

Final Thoughts

Sia does a fabulous job covering “Satisfied.”  Does it supplant or supersede the original? No, but it a welcome supplement.  Arguably, Queen Latifah steals the show with her spot-on rap.
