Highly demanded pop singer/songwriter Sia continues to shine on her latest uplifting, inspirational, and powerful ballad, “I’m Still Here.”
Sia has proven to be an incredibly versatile, well-rounded musician over the years. Not only can she sing, but she can write incredibly catchy and powerful songs alike. In my opinion, the best Sia songs are the uplifting, inspirational, and powerful ballads. Ladies and gentlemen, we have one of those on our hands with the single, “I’m Still Here.” Yeah, balladry is clearly where her “bread is buttered.”
There are a countless number of things to love about “I’m Still Here.” One is the lovely, dramatic string backdrop. This gives “I’m Still Here” a tense opening that captures the mood. Beyond awesome production, Sia shines, exhibiting incredible control and poise on the verses.
Despite showing restraint, she remains expressive and emotional. Naturally, she digs in a bit more on the first chorus without ever coming close to over-singing. Speaking of the chorus, it is memorable, thoughtful, and well written. Not surprising though – Sia has written many awesome choruses throughout her career.
“Oh, the past, it haunted me
Oh, the past, it wanted me dead
Oh, the past, tormented me
But the battle was lost
‘Cause I’m still here.”
Later, the bridge is a variation on the second half of the first verse (functions as a pre-chorus with variation on both verses). Here, she brings things back down, before building them back up on the final choruses. The vocal arrangement is sellar throughout, particularly on the final choruses. Sia ad-libs, supported by her own melodic and harmonized backing vocals – sweet!
Final Thoughts
Continuing to churn out songs like “I’m Still Here,” it’s no surprise why Sia remains so highly demanded years into her career. “I’m Still Here” checks off all boxes without a doubt.
