Sexyy Red, For No Reason | Song Review

Bold St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red keeps things raunchy, unapologetic, and unhinged on her single “For No Reason” without moving the needle or showing more range.

Sexyy Red is one of a kind.  That is an understatement. On her single, “For No Reason”, it sounds familiar the first time you hear it. How so? Well, it’s dark and malicious sounding, set in a minor key, and is anchored by a hard-nosed beat.  Beyond the archetypal musical accompaniment, Sexyy Red remains true to herself. If you’ve ever heard her rap, nothing she spits on “For No Reason” will be that surprising, contextually speaking. She remains bold, raunchy, outlandish, and unapologetic.

After the intro, where she introduces herself, she unveils the filthy chorus. What goes down, pray tell?  Oh, “B-bitches shakin’ ass, poppin’ coochie to the beat.” Gah-day-um! For extra emphasis, more shaking goes down during the post-chorus.  From there, Sexyy Red delivers the first verse, which is ratchet as albeit. A prime example: “Can’t wait to shake this ass, I don’t drink but I’m drinkin’ / Shake it when it’s clean, I’ma shake it when it’s stankin’.” Yikes! Expectedly, the second verse is nasty too, with all its ass bouncin’, “showin’ twat,” and making “this coochie pop.”  As wild as “For No Reason” is, Sexyy Red add any new wrinkles to her craft? Nope.  The shock value is still shocking but, I would love to hear this rough-around-the-edges rapper show more range in the future.
