serpentwithfeet, Damn Gloves [πŸ“·: Secretly Canadian]Serpentwithfeet (Josiah Wise) taps Ty Dolla $ign and Yanga YaYa for a surefire, naughty bop in β€œDamn Gloves,” the promo single for his third LP.

β€œUh-huh / Damn gloves.” πŸŽ™ Serpentwithfeet is a talented musician who deserves far more attention.  He brought the heat on his 2021 sophomore album, πŸ’Ώ DEACON.  One of the best and steamiest songs from DEACON was the song 🎡 β€œWood Boy” which has nothing to do with trees 🌳 😈.  I mention that song because πŸŽ™ Josiah Wise embraces S-E-X once again on 🎡 β€œDamn Gloves”, the promo single for his third LP, πŸ’Ώ GRIP (arrives February 16, 2024).  Produced alongside πŸŽ›οΈ Nosaj Thing, Mike Irish, and S.Dot, with some cool minimal, but slick, modern cues, Wise taps πŸŽ™ Ty Dolla $ign and πŸŽ™ Yanga YaYa for the assist πŸ’ͺ.

serpentwithfeet, Damn Gloves [πŸ“·: Secretly Canadian]β€œDamn Gloves” runs a skinny two-and-a-half minutes in duration.  That is sufficient! It features an enigmatic sound early-on, making the listener anticipate what is going down + what’s to come.  As always, serpentwithfeet catches the ear with his distinct pipes. The unique chorus is the first thing the listener hears post-intro:

β€œHold you closer, closer than those damn gloves

Kiss you longer, longer than a opera

If we keep on dancin’ we gon’ make love

Hold you closer, closer than those damn gloves.”

serpentwithfeet, GRIP [πŸ“·: Secretly Canadian]Ooh-wee! Wise goes on to perform the first verse where the sex is pronounced: β€œI just wanna keep grind-grindin’ on my nigga / Whatever’s on his leg, good God, it’s gettin’ thicker.” Well, damn πŸ† 😈! Sure, Wise is overt, but give him credit for embracing what he desires sexually πŸ‘¨β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘¨πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ. Ty Dolla $ign arrives in the second verse. He’s ALWAYS a vibe given his versatility (β€œDiamond choker, give me face like poker / How she get in, she fuckin’ the promoter”). Yanga YaYa, a new age soul artist from South Africa πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦, adds to the vibe in the bridge, performing in Zulu 😎. All in all, 🎡 β€œDamn Gloves” is a fun listen, one that is ear-catching from the onset. Serpentwithfeet is a tremendous talent.
