Sasha Sloan, "when was it over?" [๐Ÿ“ท: RCA]Pop artist Sam Sloan taps Grammy-nominated country standout Sam Hunt for the superb heartbroken duet, โ€œwhen was it over?โ€

Question: โ€œWhen was it over for you?โ€ That is what ๐ŸŽ™ Sasha Sloan asks her ex- on her emotional single, ๐ŸŽต โ€œwhen was it over?โ€.ย  She goes on to admit, โ€œItโ€™s still not over for me.โ€ Given the theme of a breaking up and the struggle to cope with losing someone you still love, itโ€™s only fitting she have a male duet partner, who just happens to be Grammy-nominated country artist ๐ŸŽ™ Sam Hunt.ย  This duet is definitely well worth your time.

โ€œWhen was it over?โ€ was written by a team including Sloan, Hunt, ๐ŸŽผโœ King Henry, ๐ŸŽผโœ Emi Dragoi, and the incredibly gifted ๐ŸŽผโœ Shane McAnally (that should say it all about the songwriting right here). ย The five writers definitely construct a brilliant script that is masterfully executed by Sloan and Hunt. Sloan sings with more restraint in more of an undertone.ย  This approach is incredibly successful on the first verse, expressing the sadness she feels.ย  She follows up with the titular lyric, which appears on the centerpiece, the chorus:

โ€œWhen was it over for you?
When was it over?
When was the moment you knew
That you were gonna walk out eventually?
Itโ€™s still not over for me (Mm-mm-mm)
Itโ€™s still not over for me (Mm-mm-mm).โ€

From there, Sam Hunt arrives, singing louder, higher, and with more oomph.ย  This intentional contrast is part of the charm.ย  Like Sasha, he has his own recollections, and ultimately, falls into the same boat come the chorus.ย  Notably, she joins him as they both express the fact theyโ€™re not over one another.ย  On the bridge, they both admit they arenโ€™t done, capped off by one final chorus and outro.ย  The vocal chemistry is on-point.

Final Thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ

Matters of the heart is awesome source material for a pop duet, or any style of duet for that matter.ย  Furthermore, Sasha Sloan and Sam Hunt make a pretty formidable duo.ย  They definitely do a fine job bringing this relatable duet to life.ย  Throw in an elite team of writers and great production work by King Henry, and โ€œwhen was it over?โ€ is a surefire hit.ย
