Welcome to Music Lifts, featuring songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.  Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the third edition of Music Lifts (2026), we highlight “Completely Yes” as performed by Sandra Crouch.

“Yes, Lord, Yes Lord / From the bottom of my heart / To the depths of my soul…”
Grammy-winning gospel singer-songwriter Sandra Crouch (1942 – 2024), the twin sister of Andraé Crouch (1942 – 2015), penned those meaningful and powerful lyrics.  She continues singing in the first chorus of “Completely Yes”, “Yes, Lord, completely, yes! / My soul says, yes!” Within its appearance as the 551st hymn in the African American Heritage Hymnal, the scripture referenced is 2 Corinthians 1:20: “For in Him every one of God’s promises is a ‘Yes.’ For this reason, it is through Him that we say the ‘Amen…’.” On “Completely Yes,” which appears on her 2008 compilation album, Gospel Legacy, Sandra shares lead vocal duties with Grammy-nominated gospel artist Jean Johnson.  Beyond their marvelous performances, they are accompanied by a stellar band (traditional gospel instrumentation) and an anointed choir.

The second chorus sings shifts from “Yes, Lord!” to “I love You,” continuing to laud and magnify the Most High. During the second chorus, Crouch delivers great ad-libs.  Her performance is powerful without over-singing. I love the huskiness of her pipes. Jean Johnson takes over lead duties during the verse.  She contrasts with her own high-flying, spirited pipes, bringing the yes-ness on home!

“Not my will, but Thy will be done

No more I, but it’s You, Christ, that lives inside

Lord, I give my everything, my everything to You

And I’m yielded completely through and through.”

Amen! Hallelujah! The outro delivers some of the most powerful moments.  With a dramatic arrangement, the choir breaks down the chorus, with gritty, soaring ad-libs that testify and witness to the greatness and glory of God.  “Completely Yes” is a moving gospel song that never grows old.  Fittingly it was nominated for the Grammy for Best Soul Gospel Performance By A Duo, Group, Choir or Chorus at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards.
