In 2018, underrated contemporary R&B artist Sammie returned with a long-awaited, comeback album, Coming of Age. After the lengthy hiatus, he proved that he still had vocal chops and plenty of pros to bring to the game.  The album was overlooked, but nonetheless, Sammie sounded good.  He continues to ‘sound good’ on his first single of 2019, the sexually-charged “Times 10” featuring one of 2018’s biggest breakout stars, rapper Lil Baby.

“Times 10” begins with moody, sensual vibes from the onset. The sound clearly signifies that ‘it’s about to go down.’ By go down, yes, we mean S-E-X.  The production features a slick hip-hop/modern urban contemporary beat. Atop the backdrop, Sammie delivers smooth, rhythmic vocals chocked-full of ‘the game’ (sex). On the first verse he asserts, “You got that ocean that’s wetter than wet.” Obviously, he’s referencing private parts.  On the second, he describes the act singing, “Whenever you fuck me, I feel like I’m high (I feel like I’m high) / When you get on top, you enjoying the ride…” Blunt to say the least. Sammie doesn’t deliver gospel histrionics or anything like that, remaining even keel. Regardless, it works quite effectively. Even though there’s a heaping dose of sex, it works.   The catchy chorus is a prime example, being graphic about the experience:

“Again, oh again

Keep you cummin’, keep you cummin’ again

Oh, oh

I’ll return the favor, baby, times ten

I’ma keep you cummin’, cummin’ again, oh”

Also, worth noting, is Lil Baby. Baby delivers melodic rhymes on the third verse that are idiomatic of the overall vibe of “Times 10.”

Cummin’, and cummin’ again
That pussy so good, I tell all your friends
Why they keep on trying? I won’t let ‘em in
Why you keep on crying? I bought you a Benz.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Sammie, with a little help from Lil Baby, delivers an enjoyable sex track.  Sure, it lacks substance and thinks way too much down south, but for what it is, it’s definitely a bop.  “Times 10” benefits from great vocals and great production work that evokes a sensual vibe.
