Academy and Grammy-award-winning singer Sam Smith shines on their first single of 2022, the uplifting “Love Me More.”
“Maybe I am learning how to love me more.” This line really hits me personally, as a self-deprecating individual who is often his own worst critic. Academy- and Grammy-award winning, nonbinary and genderqueer musician
Sam Smith speaks volumes on their first single of 2022,
“Love Me More”. It marks the first new music they’ve released since their their delayed 2020, platinum-certified album (in the United States),
Love Goes. Moving onto “Love Me More,” a single we can anticipate appearing on their forthcoming album, it marks an awesome return.
“Love Me More” commences abruptly with Smith singing the chorus, accompanied by a warm pad. The production – Jimmy Napes and
StarGate – plays to the talented singer’s strengths. Eventually, a soulful groove adds more punch. As always Smith delivers incredible vocals filled with nuances, highlighted by their ripe falsetto. Later, as “Love Me More” progresses, Smith is supported by fantastic, harmonized vocals. The theme of the record is what really hits the most beside the vocals and production. Smith has decided not to allow poor self-esteem and the comments of others bring him down. They’re evolving, hence, why they are dedicated to “Love me more.” The centerpiece, the chorus, says it best:
“Have you ever felt like being somebody else
Feeling like the mirror isn’t good for your health
Every day, I’m tryin’ not to hate myself
But lately it’s not hurtin’ like it did before
Maybe I am learning how to love me more.”
Final Thoughts
So, how good is “Love Me More?” Honestly, this record is so much better than I expected from Sam Smith. Hearing the soundness of “Love Me More” makes me hopeful that Smith will absolutely slay on their fourth album. There’s lots to heart about this one.
