Country standout Sam Hunt delivers an enjoyable, reflective, and totally respectable second single of 2022 with “Start Nowhere.”
“Life caught up the way that it does / Don’t even know who I was / Before my world got so unsteady / Man, I’m ready to feel alright.” 🎙 Sam Hunt sings with a beautiful, rich tone, embracing the country music aesthetic on 🎵 “Start Nowhere”, his second single from 2022. “Start Nowhere” commences pleasantly with rhythmic guitar, establishing an awesome musical foundation for the record. Hunt penned “Start Nowhere” alongside 🎼 ✍ Zach Crowell, Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne. Furthermore, he produced alongside Crowell, McAnally, and 🎛 Chris LaCorte.
As excerpted, poetic, reflective lyrics grace the first verse. “Start Nowhere” is a reflective, reminiscent number. A prime example of this appears in the second verse, where Hunt sings, “Except for a girl that I used to know / She lived with her mama down Calico Road / She was gonna leave, did she ever go?” Also, making the second verse ripe is the addition of more instrumentation, which makes the sound more fully developed compared to the beginning of the track. The chorus, unsurprisingly, marks one of the selling points. It is s thoughtful and in full-on, reflection mode:
“Well, I don’t know but I’ve been told
Moss don’t grow on a rollin’ stone
Me, I wanna go where the river rolls
And breathe in that old down-home
Feelin’ again ‘cause lately, I’ve been
Spinnin’ my wheels out, gone with the wind
When I need to get back to who I am
There ain’t but just one road thеre
Sometimes you gotta start nowhеre.”
The bridge brings some contrast but doesn’t depart completely from what the listener has heard from the onset (“Yeah, I’ll be off the grid if anybody needs me”).
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, 🎵 “Start Nowhere” is an enjoyable, respectable return for 🎙 Sam Hunt. It’s not a game-changing country song but it plays to Hunt’s strengths. Furthermore, there are plenty of relatable elements – the theme, the narrative, etc.
