Country singer Sam Hunt shines on his ballad, “Came The Closest,” where he nearly settled down but ultimately, opts against it.
“I’m never gonna be that straight-laced / Sunday-mornin’ man you were lookin’ for,” Grammy-nominated country singer
Sam Hunt asserts on
“Came The Closest”. Even so, Hunt notes that she “came the closest” to changing him. My, my, my! This smooth country ballad was written by Hunt,
Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne. All told, Mr. Hunt brings the goods – the heat, baby!
First and foremost, Sam Hunt’s voice is gorgeous. Gorgeous man
with a gorgeous voice
, right?
Anyways, the pureness and robustness of his tone is marvelous. Besides the voice, the production – the backdrop – is sweet too. Hunt has fabulous instrumental supporting him! The songwriting is another major selling point. Essentially, Sam suggests he’s not a catch
– he’s rough around the edges! In the first verse, he notes how his ex-girlfriend’s mom thought he was a catch. Sam doesn’t think he fits the mold. In the second verse, he mentions failing to propose to her, adding, “Someday you’ll be glad / ‘Cause you’ll find somebody who shaves
every day.” In the bridge, Hunt justifies, “Moving on is the only thing I know how to do / If I could’ve stood still then I would’ve stood still with you.” Sam didn’t take the plunge into being a husband, but clearly, on the enjoyable, thoughtfully penned and performed
“Came The Closest”, she was the one with whom he came the closest to settling down with. The song is a surefire winner, PERIOD!
