Sam Gellaitry, Duo | Track Review

Scottish singer, songwriter, and producer Sam Gellaitry shines on his short yet utterly sweet single, “Duo.”

If you haven’t added Scottish electronic musician Sam Gellaitry to your listening rotation, well, what exactly are you waiting for? Gellaitry returns with new music in 2021 led by the single, “Duo”.  Here, Gellaitry is a do-it-all man performing, producing, and writing the record.  He definitely proves that he doesn’t require a team of writers or producers which speaks to the breadth of his musical talent. 

Sam Gellaitry is all about brevity on “Duo.” Ultimately, the single runs just two minutes and change.  Regardless, that’s plenty of time for Gellaitry to bless the track with sheer excellence.  First and foremost, “Duo” is a groovy as hell – in the most heavenly way possible.  Never underestimate the power of groove – it goes a long way.  Beyond the groove, the overall production, also handled by Gellaitry, is on-point.  So, with groove and an ear catching backdrop, that leaves songwriting and the vocal performance to evaluate.  The results, like everything else regarding duo, are sweet.  Gellaitry sings well, delivering a balanced, well-rounded performance.  The songwriting is also strong, tackling everyone’s favorite topic, love.  So, what is the section of the song to beat? That would be the chorus, of course – would you expect any different?

A couple of strangers acting clever
Oh no
They come and go it’s temperamental
I told you so I only care about forever
I wish you the best in all your future endeavors
Let’s see where this goes and find out if we end up better.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Sam Gellaitry shines on his short and utterly sweet single, “Duo.” “Duo” checks off all of the boxes when it comes to production, singing, and songwriting.  Furthermore, it’s relatable given the theme, again, LOVE.
