Run the Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike) make a spirited return with “Let’s Go (The Royal We),” a cut appearing on the soundtrack for the Marvel film, Venom.
“Anarchists put a flame to a tire, walk around with the fire round necks / Mankind gotta deal with a new kind of mind I’m a quick death wrapped in a threat.” Say what? Run the Jewels definitely don’t get the credit that they deserve. El-P and Killer Mike have been dropping ill, kickass bars without receiving a Grammy nomination for their own work. Sad. Nonetheless, true fans know how awesome the duo are, and their latest single, “Let’s Go (The Royal We)” is further testament to their awesomeness. The record appears on the soundtrack for the film, Venom.
“Let’s Go (The Royal We)” gets off to a great start with dark, malicious, minor key production. The sound is perfectly suited for a Marvel, superhero film. Better yet, it’s perfectly suited to fuel sharp rhymes by El-P and Killer Mike. Both rappers have ample time to spit, with El-P rapping the first and third verses, while Killer Mike takes the second and fourth verses. The flows are electrifying, while the rhymes capture the action and spirit of a film. Honestly, you don’t have to see Venom to get the vibe that the duo capture. As always, the chemistry between these two is crazy, in the most impressive way possible. The hook arrives after the second and fourth verses, and it’s incredibly simple. Even so, the separation is sufficient.
“Let’s go!
Huh?
Huh?
Let’s go!
Huh?
Huh?
Huh?”
Yeah, maybe simple is an understatement.
Final Thoughts
Once more, El-P and Killer Mike make magic on “Let’s Go (The Royal We).” Sure, it’s a soundtrack cut as opposed to being a single from their forthcoming album, but, it’s ‘more than enough’ to appease fans while they wait for Run the Jewels IV.
