ROLE MODEL shines with his relatable, short but sweet single, “blind,” about being infatuated with the most gorgeous girl he’s ever seen.
“I haven’t felt a thing this year / And I’m only tryin’ to be sincere.” ROLE MODEL may have his own context for this pre-chorus lyric, but given the train wreck that is 2020, can’t we all agree with him? Of course, for the tatted, rising pop singer from Maine – not known for its musical endeavors – he’s referencing a girl that’s eliminated the numbness on his latest single, “blind.”
From the start, ROLE MODEL sets the tone of “blind,” painting a portrait of the most gorgeous girl you’ve ever seen. “She got the gold hoops, Prada fit / I’m in love with all of it,” he sings, longing for this specimen. For good measure, at the end of the first verse, he adds, “You make everyone look like they aren’t anyone.” On the second verse, he points out how this nameless, Prada girl is similar to him, particularly when it comes to that thing known as the plight of love:
“I stay pretty numb, never fell for anyone You seem similar, always end up getting hurt.”
Between the verses, following the pre-chorus, we get to the biggest moment, the irresistibly delicious chorus, where ROLE MODEL professes his feelings. Ultimately, he states, “I think I’m going blind; I hope it doesn’t change / ‘Cause I’ve never seen something quite like you.” Regardless whether he’s found true love or the latest flavor of the month, only time will tell, but what he sings about is quite relatable, period.
Final Thoughts
Tucker Pillsbury has done it once more – what a ROLE MODEL he is indeed for enjoyable and relatable pop songs. I’m not saying that millennials and beyond are going to flock to this Gen-Z standout, but hey, he’s definitely talented. Sure, “blind” is only two-and-a-half-minutes of song about a cliché topic – liking a girl. That said, does the topic every really grow old? Nope, and that would be a good thing. “blind” is a winner.
