Robyn, Honey [Photo Credit: Interscope]While Swedish dance/pop singer Robyn brings sexy vibes on “Honey,” the single is lacking in both oomph and clear distinctiveness.

“No, you’re not gonna get what you need / But baby, I have what you want / Come get your honey.” Sexy. Robyn is back following an extended hiatus – only eight years! After dropping her single “Missing U” back in August 2018, she since announced her new album, Honey, due October 26, 2018. Fittingly, she released the second single from the project, title track “Honey.”

“Honey” has moody, nebulous vibes from the onset. Initially, it’s sans percussion. Eventually, a groove sets in, providing Robyn with that danceable anchor, sigh. Throughout, there are nice production cues – synths, thudding kick, driving rhythms – though, the record could more brighter sounds for more variation.  Rub aside, the sexy, rhythmic nature of the vocals is undeniable, amplified by fine vocal production.

Final Thoughts

So, there’s plenty to like about “Honey,” but there are also flaws.  The biggest skepticism I have is that Robyn, and the production don’t have enough ‘variation’ to make this sound more distinct… It’s respectable mind you, but it gets a bit boring and forgettable.
