Innuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 33rd edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Cockiness (Love It)” by 🎙 Rihanna.

Theme & Lyrics ✍

Rihanna, Talk That Talk [Photo Credit: Def Jam]“I love it, I love it, I love it when you eat it.” Woo! There is no way that 🎙 Rihanna was simply referring to how he eats a meal on 🎵 “Cockiness (Love It)”.  The 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B/pop musician did an epic job with incorporating S-E-X into her music.  This 2011 💿 Talk That Talk gem is no exception.  Anchored with a minimalist, hip-hop-styled beat by 🎛 Bangladesh, it’s Rihanna who enjoys a hearty meal, totally eating this sugar honey iced tea – this record – up!

“Cockiness (Love It)” does not require a deep dive! Rihanna is clear about her desires often.  From the top, she references private parts and, of course, pleasuring such parts.  At the same time as she tells the world to “Suck my cockiness, lick my persuasion / Eat my words and then swallow your pride down,” she is also being metaphorical and less explicit.   Still, she enjoys sex too, asserting in the first verse, “I want you to be my sex slave /… Set my whole body on fire / … I’ma be the queen of your body parts.” Holy shit…ake mushrooms! In the second verse, she admits she’s a dominatrix – she’s running the sex here! Even so, in the third verse, she wants to ensure he’s doing it right: “Hold me down, beat it like a bully / Beat my drum, drum, like a drumline boogie.” Of course, she’s not talking about a bass drum, but rather… yeah, use your dirty minds ya pervs!

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageHearing “Cockiness (Love It)” more than a decade after its arrival makes me miss Rihanna even more.  She had no shortage of hits and to reiterate, she nailed sex superbly! It really all began with that hard-hitting 💿 Rated R album when she totally embraced that After Dark 🕛 🌃 sugar honey iced tea! Woo! “I love it, I love it, I love it when you eat it!”
