Rick Ross doesn’t change or flip the game on its side on “Big Tyme,” but the Swizz Beatz-assisted, Just Blaze-produced banger is quite enjoyable.
“Surviving R. Kelly, registered pedophiles / Tried to feed all my n*ggas and spread the cheddar ‘round…” Wow… There was a time that it looked like Rick Ross was in serious trouble – a fight for his life back in 2018. But Ross pulled through and has new music on the horizon. As if we didn’t already know, Rick is “Big Tyme,” or so his new single suggests. He’s backed by production work courtesy of Just Blaze, as well as a guest appearance by the one and only Swizz Beatz.
“Big Tyme” is your typical Rick Ross joint – and no, we’re not talking weed. The production work backing Ross by Just Blaze is rousing, just what the ears needed as well as Rick himself. Over the beat, he delivers a killer flow, again, something that has become a staple of his music over the years. Besides the flow itself, Ross has some standout lines, such as the aforementioned eyebrow-raising opening lyric from his first verse. But also, there’s drip to – how could he be “big tyme” without it? The chorus is lengthy and ultimately ‘predictable’ given how drippy it is, but that’s the point of the record and it’s effective overall.
“Big time, I just do it big time
All my n*ggas really do it big time
Lil n*ggas, but we do it big time
Started with the nickel rock, now I’m big time…”
As usual, Swizz Beatz plays the role of hype man. Predictable, but effective.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Big Tyme” is an enjoyable Rick Ross banger. He doesn’t change or flip the game on its side, but he flexes. Is he saying much? Nah, but his most loyal fan base will eat this up.
