Rising rapper Rich the Kid enlists fellow riser Trippie Redd for “Early Morning Trappin,” the third single from his debut album, ‘The World is Yours.’
Rappers are dropping new albums like it’s nothing these days. The latest newbie is Rich the Kid, who drops his debut album, The World is Yours, on March 30, 2018. Ahead of The World is Yours, the 25-year old rapper released singles including “New Freezer” (featuring Kendrick Lamar), “Plug Walk,” and the song at hand, “Early Mornin Trappin” (featuring Trippie Redd).
“Early Morning Trappin” commences with mysterious minor-key production. This goes with the territory of numerous rap records, ultimately setting the tone for this particular one. The rapping doesn’t begin until about 25 seconds in. Once the production settles in following the enigmatic start, it’s solid, embodying the trap sound. As for the rapping itself, it is ‘all over the place’ initially. Rich the Kid kicks things off with the hook, which goes a little something like this:
“Was up trappin’ early (early)
She bad and boujee but whippin’ a birdie
My cup is so dirty (what)
Your diamonds don’t shine, my pinky a 30
Pour up the pint, that’s so clean (so clean)
The rims of the Bentley cost 14
Ain’t doin’ no talkin’, the red beam (red beam)
My b*tches perplexin’, young n***a, we flexin’.”
Okay. Trippie Redd follows it up with his own melodic approach on the so dubbed post-chorus (if you will). Redd follows up with a verse that is drenched in autotune. In all honesty, it’s total overkill. Furthermore, he doesn’t add much substance. Moving beyond Trippie to Rich the Kid, he continues to exhibit a unique sound as a rapper. This sound is of a polarizing nature, best showcased on the second verse. As far as the rhymes, there’s cliché after cliché
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, “Early Morning Trappin” is a mixed bag. The idiosyncratic nature of the record isn’t a total turn-off. Still, Rich the Kid and Trippie Redd don’t quite feel like they have a home run, let alone game winner on their hands.
