Rich the Kid, The World is Yours © InterscopeFueled by rap beef, Rich the Kid has a hit on his hands with the ‘shots-firing’ “Dead Friends,” purportedly aimed at Lil Uzi Vert.

Beef, and we’re not talking about the infamous Wendy’s Mixtape – shew! Apparently, some rappers just can’t get along with each other.  Rich the Kid, who releases his debut album The World is Yours on March 30, 2018, supposedly takes shots at Lil Uzi Vert on single, “Dead Friends.” “Dead Friends” is the 14th and final track off of the album. Michael Saponara of Billboard, captures the timeline of the Rich the Kid – Lil Uzi Vert feud.

Focusing on the record as opposed to the feud, it’s clear that Rich the Kid is taking shots as someone.  The hook is ferocious, putting down someone who’s on the rapper’s bad side.

“You little n*ggas

My check bigger

Can’t flex, n*gga

Can’t bet witcha

Teach you how to be a boss, top dropped off

Motherf*ck the fame, I done came to the vault

All them dead friends

You a middleman

You a little man

Your money getting shorter

My b*tch from ‘cross the water

Teach you how to count it, all about it, better boss up.”

Essentially, Rich the Kid plays the I’m better than you game, which involves boasts mostly involving money, but throwing a reference to foreign girls as well.  If you’ve heard the hook, you’ve basically heard the premise of the song.  On the first verse, the rapper continues his rant, bragging at the same time (“I’m a boss, my whole team countin’ still, n*gga”).  On the second verse, there are two particularly distinct moments. One references his wrist (“My wrist too cold with Moncler”), while the second seems most pertinent to Lil Uzi Vert (“Come to Rich forever, be a star”).

Final Thoughts

My, my, my – what does one make of all this? From a pure entertainment standpoint, beef and all, “Dead Friends” is definitely intriguing.  From a musical standpoint, Rich the Kid doesn’t break new ground.  If the feud, or the coinciding of this particular record with the feud weren’t in the picture, would we be talking about this track or putting as much stock into it?  My call – Rich should be happy for the buzz because it makes this more compelling than it really should be.
