Ascending 18-year old rapper Rich Brian continues on his upward trajectory on single “Crisis,” assisted by 21 Savage.
Rich Brian is on an upward trajectory, period. The Indonesian rapper has ample time on his hands, considering he’s just 18 years old. Even at his young age, he doesn’t come off as childish, sporting a robust voice, and has no problems with dropping curse words. He’s impressed throughout 2017, particularly with singles “Gospel” and “Chaos.” The impressiveness continues on the self-produced “Crisis,” where he’s assisted by 21 Savage.
The production work is sound – nothing too crazy, but fitting for the rhymes both Rich Brian and 21 Savage drop. Brian starts things off with the chorus, followed up by the post-chorus. That’s a lot of chorus, but the overall effect is successful. On the post-chorus, he raps:
“Got that ass on me Sound like I’m from New York City Airbnb, gon’ fuck in it She know that I do the music (music) Always cook at home, I’m tryna save up Tryna do my friends some favors Gave her head, she facin’ backwards (backwards, ayy).”
Again, Young Brian has no issues with being blunt. The same goes on his respective verses – the first and the third. The most interesting portion of his rhymes comes on the third verse, particularly as he talks about rapping on his own beats, disliking playing the drums, and asserts his “Head is spinnin’ with no fidget.” Arguably, 21 Savage has the best verse of the song. He’s agile over the beat, spitting mad game. For 21, it’s all about the money and the flex action.
“Walking out of Louis V with the big box Yeah I pulled at Saint Laurent, I made a pit stop.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Crisis” gives Rich Brian another respectable song to add to his growing collection. Is it cohesive necessarily? No, but, there’s a lot of promise with this 18-year old. Getting 21 Savage, one of the hottest rappers or recent times on the track is huge. Lots to like here.
