Jack Kieffer, better known as electronic/pop musician Restless Modern, continues to ‘up the ante’ on his enjoyable, well-rounded single, “I’m a Stranger.”

Just in case you didn’t know, Restless Modern is a pretty ‘rad’ guy. Throughout 2018, he is growing more and more prolific as a singer, songwriter, and producer, releasing multiple new singles. Among the crop of new music is his single, “I’m a Stranger,” a record where there’s plenty to gush about. First of all, the length of the record is perfect – 3:14.  Furthermore, the harmonic progression stands out, employing some interesting chord choices that keep things interesting. Lyrically, RM is thoughtful, with a number of highlights, including, “All my past is erased / The one thing I couldn’t change…,” excerpted from the verse.

There’s also the chorus, in all its well-rounded, highly effective glory.

“I was down for you

You’re my home

But I’ll go

Say my name

And save me

Give back

All I owe.”

In addition to the lyrics, Restless Modern serves up a solid vocal performance, characterized by a beautiful tone, and indisputable authenticity. Vocal harmonies add more color, particularly on the pre-chorus section:

“I never lied to you

Oh

Just give me a moment

Swallowed my pride for you

Oh

But you say it’s over.”

The production is colorful, yet balanced. Among the best features are the smooth, rhythmic synths and how those synths grow dynamically.  Regarding that ‘balanced’ approach, RM doesn’t do too much, but what he does do he certainly makes worthwhile. Also, worth noting is the excellent contrast on the bridge section.

Final Thoughts 

Restless Modern continues to step up his game. Focusing on his craft is definitely paying dividends.  “I’m a Stranger” well-rounded in all areas, making it a must-listen.
