Rascal Flatts, Back to Us © Big MachineCountry veterans Rascal Flatts sound surprisingly refreshing on new single, “Yours If You Want It.”

Keeping it real, it’s been years since country trio Rascal Flatts have been truly relevant.  That is no disrespect to these talented musicians, but they’ve faded since the height of their popularity.  Listening to latest single “Yours If You Want It,” it leads you to believe otherwise.  The country veterans sound surprisingly refreshing and clearly on-point on his superb new single.

“Yours If You Want It” opens with a sensible country-rock guitar groove. The quick tempo sets the tone of the record, establishing tremendous energy. The production is a nice blend of acoustic guitar, piano, programming, and pummeling drums.  The record possesses a bubbly, energetic sound that makes you feel good.

Rascal Flatts exhibit clear vocals. Even though it’s been years since their lucrative prime, they sound fantastic as a whole. The vocals sound particularly passionate on the chorus:

“And every bit of love left in this beat up, banged up, scarred up heart
That’s been waitin’ on a girl like you
I know it ain’t much
But it comes alive with every touch
Every kiss already feels like you own it
Baby it’s yours if you want it.”

Vocal harmonies shine, particularly on the second verse and beyond. The bridge is dramatic – one of the selling points of the song:

“Every dollar, every dime, every drop of rain, every single thing I could beg, steal, or borrow
Every yesterday and tomorrow
Well every grain of sand on the beach
Every blade of grass under our feet
Baby your name is written on it
And it’s yours if you want it.”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Yours If You Want It” is a well written, enjoyable new single from a veteran country act.  Sure, Rascal Flatts are past their peak of popularity, but “Yours If You Want It” sounds surprisingly refreshing.
