Grammy-nominated rapper Quavo enlists fellow rapper Destroy Lonely for the assist on the ‘delicious’ single, “Potato Loaded.”
“Drugs on my chauffeur, lookin’ at a ratchet bitch, at strokers / Blue cheese, bitch, I’m loaf, section bake potato loaded.” How did a baked potato get into a rap song? Well, Quavo is referencing guns, not the beloved side served at many restaurants worldwide. On “Potato Loaded”, the Grammy-nominated rapper is true to self with his melodic, soupy, and smooth flow. As always, he packs a mean punch. It’s worth noting he collaborates with Destroy Lonely, who provides a distinct contrast in sound. Destroy Lonely’s vocal timbre is one of the selling points of this brief track.
Fueling the fire for Quavo and Destroy Lonely is a sick, trap beat. The production by Ginseng, MISOGI, and ryanjacob is dramatic, set in a minor key. Smartly, the rappers split the various sections of the song. For example, Quavo performs the first half of the first verse (“Huh, swapping out my blicks, for a brand new dirty stick / Porn stars on the jet, she don’t wanna eat nun’ but some X”). Destroy Lonely performs most of the second half: “We ain’t goin’ for shit, we sitting at Blitz, you gettin’ stick / She tryna suck my dick, I wipe that spit right off her lip”). In the second, Destroy raps most of it, but Quavo gets his bars in too. Ultimately, “Potato Loaded” is a vibe. Is it deep? No, but it’s entertaining.
