Quavo of Migos ‘goes it alone’ on “L A M B T A L K,” one of three solo singles released on August 10, 2018. The results are respectable, but not game changing.
Sooner or later, solo songs from Quavo of Migos were expected. Finally, or predictably, they’ve arrived. Tackling each of the three singles released the same day individually, we start with “L A M B T A L K.” As to why Quavo wanted the letters spaced that particular way, who knows.
“L A M B T A L K” is relatively brief, clocking in south of three minutes. The hook is incredibly simplistic – understatement. It goes a little something like this: “Lamb talk, uh, yeah / Lamb talk, Lamborghini (woo)…” Moving on, the record is backed by smooth, trap production. The drums are hard, while the synths are softer and cooler. This is a perfect fit for Quavo, who delivers a solid flow, and rhymes packed with personality. Does he say anything that’s incredibly deep? No, but he has his fair share of moments. At one point, he brags that “QC [Quality Control] the new Cash Money Records now.” Later, he gets into the kitchen, specifically the stove, rapping, “Then I take the pot, skrrt, skrrt, Fork it, skrrt, skrrt / Gumbo, like I’m from New Orleans.”
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, Quavo doesn’t give us anything new or game changing on “L A M B T A L K.” That said, he’s true to self, with various sound effects, repetition, and at times, broken, staccato rhymes. He has a certain aesthetic, and that’s maintained here.
