Quality Control, Quality Control: Control the Streets Volume 2 [Photo Credits: Quality Control Music / Motown]Lil Baby and DaBaby collaborate on the Quality Control single, “Baby,” appearing on the compilation ‘Quality Control: Control the Streets Volume 2.’

Well, there are lots of babies… in the rap game that is! Fittingly, rappers Lil Baby and DaBaby join forces for a single named – you guessed it – “Baby.” Literally, you can’t make this $h!t up.  Anyways, “Baby” appears on the Quality Control compilation Quality Control: Control the Streets Volume 2.  If you’re keeping up with rap compilations, the first QC comp arrived in 2017.  So, is “Baby” a scintillating record? Umm… ‘scintillating’ probably isn’t the right characterization.

“Baby” is basic, period.  Honestly, did anyone expect much different when putting Lil Baby and DaBaby together? Neither rapper screams transcendence in the rap game, no disrespect of course.  The production by Wheezy is respectable but certainly NOT earth shattering or ground breaking.  Lil Baby raps the first verse which focuses on himself – “Baby really a problem, somebody gotta stop him.” There’s drip, street smarts, and sex.  He follows up with the chorus, which features the word, rather the name, Baby 12 times! Notably, he closes the chorus with “Baby like a preacher, Baby prolly still sell reefer.” Lawd Jesus! DaBaby does much of the same the second verse. “I tell my bitch I’m faithful, but I still got the hoes.” SMH, that’s real monogamous.  There’s plenty of sexual references throughout to complement the drip, many of which are cocky AF.  A perfect example: “I barely wanna hit her, got her beggin’, ‘Baby, please’ / I tell a bitch to shut up, you ‘bout to fuck my nut up…” Really?

Final Thoughts

The best part of “Baby” is the fact that it lasts shy of two-and-a-half minutes.  As aforementioned, neither rapper is exactly ‘lighting it up’ here.  Fans of Lil Baby and DaBaby will be onboard while the more casual listener will hear the track and be like, ‘so what?’
