Post Malone, Wow. [Photo Credit: Republic]Post Malone is on autopilot on his two-and-a-half-minute flex-fest, “Wow,” released on December 24 (Christmas Eve), 2018.

“Hunnid bands in my pocket, it’s on me / Hunnid deep when I roll like the army / Get more bottles, these bottles are lonely / It’s a moment when I show up, got ‘em sayin’, ‘Wow.’” Post Malone bestowed quite the Christmas gift upon the world – a brand new single, “Wow.” Sure, Malone isn’t generous where duration is concerned (it’s merely two-and-a-half-minutes long), but the single is infectious and chocked-full of energy.

The production is one of the strong suits of “Wow.” The record is anchored by a tight beat and relatively simple, but potent synths.  It’s the perfect backdrop for the swag-laden pop rapper, who is on autopilot from the start.  On the first verse, Post Malone references rides (Benz, McLaren), Vodka mixed with LaCroix, and “the igloo in [his] mouth…”. Sure, it’s shallow, but the man pulls it off like a champ.  On the second verse, the signature line comes early on – “Catch me on the block like I’m Matumbo.” He goes on to reference Lamborghini, a ‘kitchen counter strip club,’ Stoney (his first album), and a Dak Prescott touchdown.  Of course, the aforementioned hook brings the “wow” factor all together brilliantly.  The hook continues a little something like this:

“…Hunnid bands in my pocket, it’s on me

Yeah, your grandma-ma probably know me

Get more bottles, these bottles are lonely

It’s a moment when I show up, got ‘em sayin’, ‘Wow.’”

Final Thoughts

So, does Post Malone change the game with “Wow.”? No, not in the least.  That said, this is a two-and-a-half-minute banger that totally slaps.  Post is at his melodic best, and the minimalist production is potent fuel for his fire.  If you were in need of a lift, Malone gives it too you with the confident “Wow.”
