Post Malone continues to embrace pop on “Overdrive,” the third advance single from his fifth studio album, Austin.
“Ispend my nights on overdrive / I live my life so overtired,” 🏆 Grammy-nominated pop singer/songwriter 🎙 Post Malone asserts in the chorus of 🎵 “Overdrive”. Anytime over- is used as a prefix, it suggests something happening in excess – more than normal. Clearly, Post is a busy, busy man, willing to give his all. “Overdrive” marks the third single released in advance of his fifth studio album, 💿 Austin. He continues singing in the chorus, “And there’s nowhere I can hide / Now I live my life in overdrive.” Post Malone wrote “Overdrive” alongside 🎼 ✍ Louis Bell and watt (who also 🎛 produce with him), and Billy Walsh.
Essentially, on this short but sweet cut, PM will do anything to please people he cares about, and apparently, his audience. In the first verse, he’s willing to be like someone else, “if that’s cool to you.” In the second, he’s even willing to remove his tattoos, and you know he has lots of them! Honestly, that’s the big takeaway from “Overdrive”. The lyrics aren’t game changing, but again, Post makes his point loud and clear. Furthermore, he sounds strong, and the sheen of the production is ear catching. Though previously associated with hip-hop, there is nothing hip-hop about 🎵 “Overdrive”. Depending on who you are, you decide if that is the right or wrong move for the artist.
