Post Malone and The Weeknd make a formidable team on their collaborative single, “One Right Now” where they cry foul about respective exes.
“Y
ou think it’s so easy fuckin’ with my feelings / I got one comin’ over and one right now.” Damn, that’s quite an assertion thereEarly on, “One Right Now” establishes a unique sound. The opening synth works well and recurs throughout the record. Overall, the production ( Louis Bell,
Brian Lee,
Andrew Bolooki) is ear-catching. It plays right into the hands of The Weeknd with the 80s vibes that he’s been riding exceptionally. That said, it also supports Post Malone. Tesfaye takes first blood, throwing some f-bombs in the mix on the chorus, partially excerpted above. Following his first verse (“I fucked you so good, you should pay me”), Post sings the chorus originally performed by Tesfaye, with both joining forces on the final edition. That final edition comes after the second verse, performed by Tesfaye. Here, he scathingly tells his ex, “You’re a stain on my legacy /… Oh, you belong to the world now.” I heart the reference to his 2013, Kiss Land song,
“Belong to the World”.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, Post Malone and The Weeknd make a formidable team. “One Right Now” plays to both artists strengths. It’s well-produced, well-performed, and relatable. Everyone’s had an ex that has made them bitter AF. That’s exactly how PM and TW come over here – BITTER! Their anger and pain are our listening pleasure, all said and done!
