PnB Rock, GTTM Goin Thru the Motions © EMPIRE/ Atlantic“New Day” arguably gives up-and-coming rapper/singer PnB Rock his best single to date from GTTM: Goin’ Thru The Motions.

2017 – new year, new artists.  One promising new artist in the urban vein is PnB Rock.  PnB is representative of the hybrid musician – one who both sings and raps interchangeably.  Rock has released a couple of mixtapes, most notably the commercially available 2015 effort, RNB 3, released on major label Atlantic. 2017 welcomes his proper debut, GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions.  Three singles arrived prior to GTTM: “Playa No More”, “Selfish”, and “New Day.”

“New Day” begins with an intro that sets the tone. the A+ hook follows suit, arguably giving PnB Rock his best single to date.

“Ah man god damn, it’s a new day
Now I’m getting money I swear everything’s changed
Now all these bad bitches tryna be my main
And now all these lame n***as tryna be with gang
No I done made a new lane
Pull up on your block in that fucking Mulsanne
Your bitch on my top like a fucking toupee
Cause she see the guap bussin’ out my Balmains.”

The hook is a major selling point. He excels at game here, giving no fucks whatsoever.

“New Day” features bright production work. Despite the brightness, it is set in a minor key, giving it some darkness. Hard drums anchor down this banger.  Vocally, PnB Rock is drenched in autotune. Even though PnB Rock is pop-rapping, he showcases a toughness, spitting agilely and profanely.  Confidence is the M.O. for PnB Rock. He doesn’t lack it on his verses.  On the first verse, he brags:

“Man I swear I’m too paid
Young n***a balling like I’m playing 2K
I can’t fuck with these n***as cause they too fake
All they do is hate man they too fugay...”

The flex-fest continues on the second verse.

“Man I swear I’m too paid
I woke up like fuck it I might buy a new K
Diamonds dancing you can see my shit like Blu-ray
I just fucked this n***a bitch, she tryna be my new bae.”

Final Thoughts

Arguably, “New Day” is the best single of the three pre-releases from GTTM. The clichés are exactly that, but PnB pulls it off like a champ here. 2017 is a new day for PnB.
