3.5 out of 5 stars

Pop hit-maker Pitbull delivers another potential pop hit with “Greenlight.” Pit gets an assist from Flo Rida and Lunchmoney Lewis.

Pitbull is quite prolific.  It seems as if “every time you turn around,” there is a new Pitbull single. While he is prolific, many of the rapper’s songs sound the same. It’s been a while since Pitbull wasn’t overtly pop.  What happened to the rapper on “Dammit Man” that asserted, “Y’all can’t fuck with us.”  Regardless, Pitbull has embraced pop because he knows that’s where the money is.  Can you knock his hustle “getting that paper?” Nah!

Latest single “Greenlight” features fellow pop-rapper Flo Rida as well as up-and-coming hip-hop artist/producer Lunchmoney Lewis. “Greenlight” opens as corny as any Pitbull single –

“Red light, green light, everybody take a shot / red light, green light / give me everything you’ve got.”

It’s cringe-worthy, but who would expect any more from Pit honestly?

Moving on, Lewis delivers solid vocals on the hook, showcasing an excellent vocal tone. Beyond the “Money” vocals, the overall sound of the record is groovy. “Greenlight” has a slick urban contemporary vibe going – R&B touches shine within the production.

As for the rhymes, Pit’s rhymes are as agile as ever. This is a point of consistency from the MC. While his rhymes and lack of substance may be questionable, his tone as a rapper is sound. Flo Rida arrives for the second verse. He differentiates from Pit with more pop-oriented rhymes. This contrast proves to be alluring.

All in all, “Greenlight” is a great party jam that’s perfect for the summer.  While there is nothing new or monumental, it’s well produced and has the formula to kill the pop charts.  It may not silence the hate directed towards Pitbull, but it hypes you up.
