Pitbull goes moderately harder on his new single, “Can’t Have” which samples “Can’t Have” by pop-R&B artist Steven A. Clark. 

Pitbull is an artist who gets a lot of grief.  Arguably, he hasn’t been hard since “Dammit Man” and that was back in 2004.  On new single “Can’t Have,” Pit goes a smidge harder.  Still, he’s by no means a hardcore rapper.

Moody production work initiates “Can’t Have” –  at least initially. “Can’t Have” samples a 2015 Steven A. Clark song, also titled “Can’t Have.” The party vibe, coupled with a minor key and electro-pop oriented hip-hop sound doesn’t take long to arrive.  The groove ends up being as infectious as ever.

Pitbull comes in aggressive, making several references to representing “305.” On the second verse (in particular), he spits about his come-up, adding more toughness and oomph. In reiteration, Steven A Clark sings the hook – his song is sampled after all.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Can’t Have” is respectable, but not game changing.  Despite a softening reputation, Pitbull goes harder here. Still “Can’t Have” has the club in mind, for better or worse. Even with its flaws the record is sound…enough.
