PinkPantheress, I must apologise | Track Review 🎵

Viral British pop artist PinkPanthress exhibits potential on “I must apologise,” The fifth single from her debut mixtape to hell with it.

“I

must apologize / Before I end the night / It’s not a game I want to change.” TikTok is a musical force, whether you like it or not.  Is every artist born from going viral on the app an elite musician? Of course not, but ignoring it is not an option.  🎙 PinkPantheress is on the rise thanks to TikTok, dropping her debut mixtape, 💿 to hell with it (love the title) on October 15, 2021.  Before unleashing to hell with it on the world, she drops the short but fascinating single, 🎵 “I must apologise”.

“I must apologise” clocks in under two minutes.  Regardless, there’s plenty to analyze despite the short run time.  Notably, the record samples 🎵 “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” by 🎙 Crystal Waters.  This, of course, gives the UK pop cut fuel – vroom, vroom.  Vocally, PinkPantheress gives a respectable performance, with a pleasant timbre and approach, but I’d argue her voice is secondary to the vibe and overall aesthetic. With the sample playing a crucial role, the ear catching sound of this record, with its quick tempo and hyper rhythm standout more than the vocal itself.  That said, the theme is notable: ruining relationships.  On the second verse, she sings:

“Your paranoia, it happens all the time
And that’s ‘cause lying’s a big problem of mine
But I still do it, now I’m by myself again
I tell so many that I can’t see them end.”

Final Thoughts 💭 

So, what does one make of the brief “I must apologise”? Well, it’s intriguing without a doubt. I don’t leave as wowed as the TikTok community, which is younger than myself, but I’m interested to see how PinkPantheress develops artistically.  “I must apologise” exhibits potential, albeit in a tight, sub-two-minute package.  Still, I enjoyed my first experience with this 20-year-old up-and-comer!
