Pig Destroyer, Head Cage [Photo Credit: Relapse]Grindcore/metal band Pig Destroyer returns with “Army of Cops,” the promo single from their highly-anticipated sixth studio album, ‘Head Cage.’

Virginia grindcore / death metal / thrash metal band Pig Destroyer has been in action since 1997. The members that comprise this collective are Jr. Hayes (vocals), Scott Hull (guitars), Adam Jarvis (drums), Blake Harrison (electronics), and John Jarvis (bass). The band is back with “Army of Cops,” the promo single from their forthcoming album, Head Cage, their first new album since 2012 (Book Burner).

It should come as no surprise that Pig Destroyer opens “Army of Cops” with a bang.  From the jump, the record comes right at you – ‘in your face.’  How so? Those vocals by Jr. Hayes man.  Screamed, hella aggressive, and turned-all-the-way-up to the nth degree.  Listening to “Army of Cops” it’s clear that NOBODY is stopping him – NOBODY. Besides those hella aggressive vocals, the rest of Pig Destroyer does a fantastic job of providing fitting accompaniment.  The guitars are angular and jagged, the drums pummel, and there’s this sense of cacophony. At about the halfway mark, there’s a fantastic change of pace and ‘heavy and intense’ doesn’t even sufficiently describe the happenings.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Army of Cops” serves as an awesome, engaging promo single from Head Cage.  Pig Destroyer seems to be bringing the heat – packing a punch – and that’s exactly what’s expected from a death metal band.  Can it be death metal and not be incredibly heavy? NO, it can’t.
