nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  In the 53rd edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Gush” by 🎙 Pharrell Williams.

Theme & Lyrics

wut“Gush / Make the pussy just gush…” Wow! It doesn’t take long at all for 🎙 Pharrell Williams to unleash his intentions on 🎵 “Gush”.  The excerpted lyrics appear in the intro of the fourth track from his 🏆 Grammy-winning, 2014 album, 💿 G I R LG I R L is a relatively clean album for the most part, but this sex-driven number marks one instance where Williams clearly lets loose.  Part of letting loose includes the repetition of the line, “Light that ass on fire.” Woo!

thirsty“Take off your halo and wings / Girl, I can make her fly.” Again, I say, wow, Pharrell! Williams admits in the pre-chorus that his perverted side didn’t come from his momma: “I don’t know what’s come over me / My momma didn’t raise me that way.”  Still, the continuation of the pre-chorus seems like an excuse only by a man possessed by the three-letter word: “You lit a fire, from inside of me / That’d light your seat ablaze, girl”). It’s confirmed by the chorus where, “Tonight I wanna be dirty, girl/…Do you wanna get dirty girl? Let’s go”).  Beyond being highly sexualized, “Gush” is refined when it comes to the musical backdrop. The jazzy, soulful harmonic progression is characteristic of Pharrell through and through.  It’s at the production end of things where Williams tends to be his best.  That said, it’s intriguing hearing his inner freak aroused.

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageNo deep analysis is required on 🎵 “Gush”.  This Pharrell Williams joint is clearly about sex, and lit sex for that matter.  No, it’s not the crowning achievement from G I R L but it is compelling and tailor-made for After Dark 🕛 🌃 listening.
