Pharrell Williams and Camila Cabello recapture the magic from a previous collaboration on their infectious Latin-infused pop single, “Sangria Wine.”
Pharrell Williams and Camila Cabello – what else could you ask for? “Sangria Wine” actually marks the second collaboration between these two artists. Notably, Williams co-wrote Cabello’s breakthrough hit, “Havana”. Do the two rekindle the magic on “Sangria Wine?” You bet!
“Sangria Wine” commences with a synthetic brass-fueled intro (interlude), that recurs later in the record. From a production standpoint, “Sangria Wine” is hella compelling. In addition to the aforementioned interlude, there’s a fantastic, infectious, percussive groove. Like “Havana,” “Sangria Wine” explores world flavors, specifically Latin pop, which has had a huge resurgence in 2017 that’s continued into 2018.
Camila Cabello sounds fantastic, handling the bulk of the singing duties. She sings both brief verses in English, while she breaks out Spanish for the pre-choruses that follow. The bright, youthfulness of her instrument, not to mention the attitude she exhibits on this particular record, makes her special. As for Pharrell, he also lends his pipes to the centerpiece of the record, the chorus. Catchy, Mr. Williams is on autopilot.
“Honey said she want somebody break her off proper
Man, she so relentless so nothing can stop her
Never left the city but she swear she’s a yardie
Because it’s so awesome how she move her body
She do the sangria wine, sangria wine
Moving side to side, front and behind…”
Final Thoughts
Two words: magic rekindled. Pharrell and Camila prove they make an awesome pair on “Sangria Wine.” One word to describe this single: infectious.
