“I know that it’s over for us / But I can’t help thinking about your touch / I want your touch.” Sigh, those ‘matters of the heart’ – being ‘in your feelings’ – will totally mess you up every time. Canadian indie-pop singer/songwriter 🎙 Peter Jessy knows and understands this all too well on his single, 🎵 “Daydream”.  Per Jessy, “Daydream” isn’t aimed at a specific flame gone awry, but rather, “about my bad habit of falling for boys who aren’t good for me.” Regardless of sexual preferences, it’s easy to relate to what Jessy masterfully serves up on the short, sweet, and potent “Daydream.”

There’s lots to heart about “Daydream.” Clearly, the theme and lyrics appeal to everyone because most of us all haven fallen for the wrong person.  Like Jessy, we often find ourselves fantasizing – daydreaming about someone who we ultimately won’t get with, reunite with, and shouldn’t be given a thought in the first place.  Beyond theme and lyrics, Peter Jessy sings beautifully, selling these ‘feels’ with incredible authenticity. They’re tone is utterly sublime.  The final piece that makes “Daydream” superb? The production (🎛 Micheal Wilson), which begins which features ukulele, sweet whistles, bells, and eventually, an anchoring drum groove and bass line. Sweetening the deal even more as “Daydream” continues? Backing vocals – a surefire, potent secret weapon!

Final Thoughts 💭

Peter Jessy delivers a gem with “Daydream,” period.  A mere two-and-a-half-minutes of song, it is glorious to the nth degree.  Sure, there’s love pain, and that’s ‘kind of a big deal,’ but Jessy’s plight is to our benefit, musically.  Also, worth noting, towards the end, he gets out of his ‘funk’ asserting, “I know that I can’t stay / In your daydream.” “Daydream” = SUREFIRE WINNER.
